FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason swimming and diving teams completed the second day of the annual Patriot Invitational, with the men's team in third place and the women's team in fifth place after day two of the three-day event held at the Jim McKay Natatorium in Fairfax, Va.
The Mason men's team remains in third place with 474.5 points. Drexel moved into first place with 567.5 points, the University of North Carolina Wilmington is second with 538.5 points, followed by Mason, Seton Hall (386.5), UMBC (360), Florida Atlantic (277), American (90) and Shippensburg (51).Â
The Patriots took three of the top five spots in the 400-yard IM. Senior
Steven Craig finished second (4:00.90), classmate
Matthew Lynch was third (4:02.79) and sophomore
Attila Kiss placed fifth (4:03.85).
Mason sophomore
Christopher Stankiewicz finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke (55.69). He was edged out by one-tenth of a second in the event. Junior
Michael Pettinichi was second in the B Final of the event (56.74).
In the 100-yard backstroke, sophomore
Ryan Donnelly placed fifth (51.75), while classmate
Logan Eubanks finished seventh (51.89).
Senior
Alec Morin was seventh (50.44) and Lynch finished eighth (51.03) in the 100-yard butterfly.
On the women's side, senior
Amy Tansill earned a spot on the podium with a third place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.61). Senior
Allison Barahona finished first in the B Final of the event (1:06.55) with freshman
Shannon Glesing right behind in second place (1:06.59).
Mason junior
Theresa Cotter recorded a third place finish in the 100-yard backstroke (57.81).
Senior
Dorothy Reilly took the top spot in the B Final of the 100-yard butterfly (56.43), while junior
Marla Albanese was third in the event (57.38).
The combination of senior
Rachel Williams, junior
Christina McLemore, sophomore
Hannah Ikenberry and Reilly posted a third place finish in the 800-yard freestyle relay (7:37.01).
The Mason women's team is in fifth place with 270.5 points after the second day of competition. UNCW has the lead with 613 points, followed by Drexel (543.5), Florida Atlantic (396) and Seton Hall (328).
The final day of competition is Saturday, with the prelims scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. and finals slated for 6 p.m. at the Jim McKay Natatorium.
