GENEVA, Ohio – The George Mason men's and women's swimming and diving teams concluded the final day of competition at the A-10 Classic on Sunday at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
The Mason men's team finished the two-day event with a perfect 3-0 record, defeating La Salle (194-178), Saint Louis (245-125) and St. Bonaventure (276-91). The Patriots improved to 5-0 in dual action this season, including a record of 4-0 against conference opponents.
Mason sophomore
Attila Kiss had a strong showing with a first place finish in the 1,650-yard freestyle (16:16.43), while senior
Steven Craig was second (16:34.49) and junior
Nicholas Burton placed fifth (16:49.81).
Sophomore
Christopher Stankiewicz swam to a first place finish in the 100-yard IM (52.62) with senior
Matthew Lynch placing fourth in the event (54.48). Lynch took second in the 200-yard butterfly (1:52.41), with freshman
Andres Alarcon right behind in third (1:54.15).
In the 100-yard freestyle, senior
Alec Morin was second (46.05) and freshman
Drake Moretz finished fifth (47.31). Sophomore
Ryan Donnelly touched the wall second in the 200-yard backstroke (1:52.59).
The Patriots took three of the top six spots in the 200-yard breaststroke. Junior
Michael Pettinichi finished third (2:10.85), freshman
Wallace Watkins was fifth (2:11.44) and Craig placed sixth (2:12.35).
The combination of freshman
Bradley Downs, Moretz, Morin and Stankiewicz finished second in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:06.25).
Freshman
Gerald Hodges, Jr. finished second in the one-meter springboard with a score of 283.20 and also placed second in the three-meter diving event with a score of 298.25.
The Mason women's team defeated La Salle (263-101), but fell to Duquesne (241-129), Saint Louis (192-179) and St. Bonaventure (194-177) at the A-10 Classic.
Senior
Dorothy Reilly swam to a victory in the 200-yard butterfly (2:04.81) and placed fifth in the 100-yard IM (1:00.80).
Mason sophomore
Hannah Ikenberry finished second in the 1,650-yard freestyle (17:41.16), while freshman
Erica King placed sixth in event (18:09.46).
Senior
Allison Barahona registered a fourth place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:24.33), junior
Theresa Cotter was fourth in the 200-yard backstroke (2:07.93) and senior
Rachel Williams placed fifth in the 100-yard freestyle (53.98).
Freshman
Marina Toone was second in the three-meter springboard with a score of 226.00 and placed fourth in the one-meter event with a score of 212.15.
Mason swimming and diving is back in action Nov. 16-18, hosting the annual Patriot Invitational at the Jim McKay Natatorium in Fairfax, Va.
