GENEVA, Ohio – The George Mason women's and men's swimming and diving teams combined to win six events and finished with 16 top-three finishes on day one of competition at the A-10 Duals on Saturday at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
On the women's side, Mason senior
Amy Tansill won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.67), while classmate
Allison Barahona finished sixth (1:07.94).
Senior
Dorothy Reilly was second in the 400-yard IM (4:33.26) and placed sixth in the 200-yard IM (2:10.73).
Sophomore
Hannah Ikenberry finished second in the 500-yard freestyle (5:05.73) and sixth in both the 200-yard freestyle (1:56.32) and 100-yard backstroke (59.91).
In the 200-yard medley relay, the team of juniors
Marla Albanese and
Theresa Cotter, along with Tansill and Reilly placed second (1:47.37). The combination of senior
Rachel Williams, Ikenberry, Reilly and Williams took third in the 400-yard medley relay (3:55.04).
The 200-yard freestyle relay team of sophomore
Rachel Chalsma, freshman
Shannon Glesing, Albanese and Williams swam to a fifth place finish (1:39.17).
On the men's side, senior
Alec Morin won the 50-yard freestyle (21.28), while freshman
Drake Moretz finished eighth (22.26).Â
Mason sophomore
Attila Kiss took the top spot on the podium in the 500-yard freestyle (4:38.22). Senior
Steven Craig was fourth (4:40.27) and sophomore
Logan Eubanks finished fifth in the event (4:45.67).
In the 200-yard freestyle, Moretz finished third (1:43.37) and Kiss was fifth (1:44.63).
The Patriots claimed three of the top five spots in the 400-yard IM. Craig touched the wall first (4:04.00), Kiss was fourth (4:07.99) and junior
Nicholas Burton placed fifth (4:10.44).
Sophomore
Christopher Stankiewicz won the 100-yard breaststroke (56.96) and junior
Michael Pettinichi took third in the event (58.51).
Mason took three of the top five spots in the 100-yard butterfly. Senior
Matthew Lynch was second (50.58), freshman
Devin Truong fourth (51.13) and freshman
Andres Alarcon finished fifth (51.53). Lynch placed fourth in the 200-yard IM (1:56.51).
Sophomore
Ryan Donnelly was third in the 100-yard backstroke (52.22).Â
In addition to four individual first place finishes, Mason's relay teams had a strong showing.
The 200-yard medley relay team of Eubanks, Morin, Stankiewicz and Truong earned a victory (1:32.49). The combination of Moretz, Morin, Stankiewicz and Truong finished second in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:25.24) and the group of freshman
Bradley Downs, Donnelly, Pettinichi and Truong were third in the 400-yard medley relay (3:30.00).
The A-10 Duals resume on Sunday with swimming scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. and diving events slated to start at 11 a.m. at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
