RICHMOND, Va. – The George Mason women's and men's swimming and diving teams concluded the Richmond Duals on Saturday. The women's team defeated Davidson 170.5-128.5 on the second day of competition, while the men's team completed a two-day dual against Davidson with an overall score of 253-151 to earn a victory over the Wildcats in Richmond, Va.
The Mason women's team won four individual events on Saturday against Davidson.
Senior
Dorothy Reilly won two individual events for the second straight day, taking the top spot on the podium in both the 100-yard butterfly (57.69) and 200-yard butterfly (2:05.42). Sophomore
Rachel Chalsma finished third in the 100-yard butterfly (58.77) and junior
Christina McLemore was fourth in the 200-yard butterfly (2:10.85).
Mason senior
Amy Tansill finished in a first-place tie in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:05.74), while sophomore
Hannah Ikenberry won the 500-yard freestyle (5:08.52).
Senior
Gretchen Roesel placed fifth in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:26.72), classmate
Rachel Williams finished fifth in the 100-yard freestyle (54.08) and junior
Marla Albanese was fifth in the 50-yard freestyle (24.72).
The combination of Tansill, Reilly, Albanese and junior
Theresa Cotter registered a fourth place finish in the 400-yard medley relay (3:57.53). In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the group of Albanese, Williams, Chalsma and freshman
Shannon Glesing posted a fourth place finish (1:39.13).
On the men's side, Mason won seven individual events and two relays on the final day of competition at the Richmond Duals.
Sophomore
Christopher Stankiewicz won the 50-yard breaststroke (26.20) with senior
Deion Dean finishing fourth in the event (27.48). Stankiewicz also claimed the top spot on the podium in the 100-yard breaststroke (56.92), while freshman
Michael Pettinichi finished second (59.22).
The Patriots took three of the top four spots in the 100-yard butterfly. Senior
Matthew Lynch finished first (50.78), freshman
Devin Truong second (50.89) and freshman
Andres Alarcon was fourth (51.81). Truong would go on to have an impressive showing with a win in the 50-yard butterfly (23.11), with Lynch placing fourth in the event (23.69).
Sophomore
Logan Eubanks touched the wall first in the 50-yard backstroke (24.12) and finished second in the 100-yard backstroke (52.01).
In a close finish where first place was decided by less than one second, Mason sophomore
Attila Kiss finished second in the 500-yard freestyle (4:40.44) with senior
Steven Craig taking fourth in the event (4:42.93). Kiss was also second in the 400-yard IM (4:08.96) with Craig placing third (4:10.67).
The Patriots won both relay events. Stankiewicz, Lynch, sophomore
Ryan Donnelly and senior
Alec Morin combined to take the top prize in the 400-yard medley relay (3:24.68). Morin, Truong, Stankiewicz, and freshman
Drake Moretz teamed up to win the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:24.96).
Three Mason sophomores swept the top three spots in the men's three-meter diving event.
Gerald Hodges, Jr. took the top spot with a score of 284.30,
Joe Amato was second (220.85) and
William Dubuque finished third (181.35.). Hodges also won the one-meter springboard with a score of 267.15, while freshman
Aidan Jones was second (209.40).
The Patriots are back in action Oct. 28-29 when they compete in the A-10 Duals at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
