The Patriots men's tennis team began their spring season this weekend with a 4+1 format match against Atlantic 10 Conference opponent VCU in Richmond. The Patriots fell to the Rams 4-1.
 
Two of the four singles matches went to three sets, highlighted by Freshman Alexis Pinsonneault winning at number four singles in a thrilling three set victory, 7-6, 2-6, 1-0. The Patriots freshman Jakob Nielson lost the opening game of his No. three singles match 6-0, but bounced back to take the second set 7-5, before dropping the match in the tiebreaker.
 
 "The guys came out ready to compete today against one of the toughest teams in our conference, it obviously wasn't the outcome that we preferred, but if we continue to work that hard every point we will be a very difficult team to beat as the season continues," said Coach Jimmy Davis. "Alexis pulled out a great win against a very tough opponent, and showed he can really handle the pressure situations on big points. I'm excited to get back to work with the guys and keep improving."
