In their opening tournament on the fall schedule, the George Mason golf team is currently tied for fourth place after the first day at the EKU Intercollegiate. The Patriots are tied with Mercer after shooting a seven-over par 567.
Host Eastern Kentucky leads second place Cleveland State by three strokes after scoring eight under par after the first 36 holes. Ohio University is third at four-under par.
Mason freshman Davis Soderberg lead Mason today carding a one-under par 69 in the first round, followed by even par to finish tied for eighth overall at the course at the University Club at Arlington. Brock Kovach is two-over par and tied for 24th going into the final round Sunday. Eric Edwards opened with a 74 but finished even par in the afternoon on the 6,623 yards course. Ellis Messian rounded out the scoring with a two-round 146 (+6).
The EKU Intercollegiate will conclude with 18 holes on Sunday, beginning with a shotgun start at 8 a.m.
