FAIRFAX, Va. – No Atlantic 10 Conference women's lacrosse team placed more student-athletes on a recent national academic honor roll than George Mason.
The Patriots led the A-10 with seven student-athletes named to the 2016 Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Zag Sports Academic Honor Roll.
Recent graduates Erin Anderson, Kelli Beard and Elena Obregon and rising seniors Taylor Altomare, Melissa Lobaccaro, Brooke Lorber and Jacquelyn Spalding were all named to the IWLCA Zag Sports Academic Honor Roll.
The IWLCA honored student-athletes from 301 different institutions in NCAA Divisions I, II and III and the NAIA. With seven student-athletes on the honor roll, George Mason tied for the third-most among Division I teams. In order to be eligible for this honor, student-athletes must be a junior, senior, or graduate student and earned a cumulative academic GPA of 3.50 or greater.
Anderson, a native of West Chester, Pa., and Beard, from Catonsville, Md., both graduated in May with bachelor's degrees in tourism and events management. Obregon, an attacker from nearby Fairfax Station, Va., completed her bachelor's degree in psychology.
Altomare, a midfielder from Wolfsville, Md., is a majoring in health administration. Lobaccaro, a midfielder from Commack, N.Y., is a civil engineering major. Lorber is a marketing major from Bel Air, Md., and Spalding, a finance major, hails from Riva, Md.
The individual honors come on the heels of last week's announcement that George Mason had been named a IWLCA Academic Honor Squad. In order to qualify, the team had to post a GPA of 3.0 or higher during the 2015-16 academic year. The Patriots combined for a team GPA of 3.43.
