NEWPORT NEWS, Va.—George Mason sophomore Eric Edwards was named to the Atlantic 10 Conference Men's Golf All-Academic team announced by the conference today. The team, which includes five individuals, was selected by a vote of the league's golf media relations directors.
Edwards, a finance major, was the Patriots top golfer this season, finishing tied for third place overall at the Atlantic 10 Championships and named to the All-Conference team. On the academic front, Edwards earned Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll for both semesters, which requires a 3.5 GPA.
The Salisbury, N.C. native was also the most consistent golfer having played in every tournament and the only player to have all 30 rounds counted in competition. He led the Patriots with a 73.27 scoring average which ranks fourth in the Mason record book. He has three top 10 finishes and seven in the top 20 this season.
He etched his name into the Mason records books ranking fourth with 83 birdies in a single season. His Par 3 scoring was 3.1575, good for third and his Par 4 scoring was 4.1600 which is fourth best in Mason history. He also owns the second lowest round score and low round vs. par (-7) with a 64 at the OBX Collegiate held at Powell's Point in October.
