FAIRFAX, Va. – For the second straight year, Alexa McGovern has been recognized as one of the best lacrosse players in the state.

George Mason's junior midfielder was named to the VaSID All-State University Division Second Team in a vote by sports information directors in the state of Virginia. McGovern, a native of Sykesville, Md., also earned all-state honors in 2015.

This past season, McGovern led the team with 41 goals as the Patriots tied a school record with 12 wins. She scored the most goals in a season by a Patriot since 2008. Her 41 goals rank as eighth-most in a season in program history.

The two-time Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team selection led the league with five game-winning goals. She also ranked third in the A-10 with 46 draw controls, which were the most by a Patriot this season. She dished out five assists to finish third on the team with 46 points. She also added 21 ground balls and seven caused turnovers.

McGovern, who started all 17 games for the Patriots, was one of 25 players throughout the state of Virginia to be named to VaSID's University Division First and Second Teams.
