Mason Picks Up Top Two Finishes in Varsity 8+ Event of the Occoquan Chase

Rowing Concludes Season with Atlantic 10 Championship

OCCOQUAN, Va. – George Mason rowing wrapped up the 2016 season finishing eighth in the Atlantic 10 Championship held on the Occoquan Reservoir. Caitlin Lucas was named Second Team All-Conference.

Rhode Island claimed the team trophy winning its third A-10 title in five years and earned the A-10's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship. Rhode Island was tied with Massachusetts for the point total with 51 points, but the Rams claimed the A-10 title based on their finish in the Varsity 8+ Grand Final, which serves as the tiebreaker.

Mason advanced to the Petite Final in all three events by claiming fourth place in each race: Varsity 4+, Second Varsity 8+ and Varsity 8+. In the Varsity 8+ Petite Final, the Patriots picked up second place with a time of 08:32.41. Dayton took the top spot in 08:16.20.

In the second petite final for the Patriots, Mason took first in the Second Varsity 8+ in 09:16.70. The Patriots bested Dayton which crossed in 09:42.19.

Competing in the third and final event, Mason took second against Dayton in the Varsity 4+ Petite Final. The Flyers claimed the top spot in a time of 10:30.50, while the Patriots crossed the finish line in 11:03.28.

URI claimed the top spot in the Varsity 8+ Grand Final ahead of UMass. The Minutewomen, however, claimed first place in both the grand finals of the Varsity 4+ and Second Varsity 8+.
