On Saturday, May 14, 2016, the Athletics Department joined George Mason University in celebrating the 49th annual commencement ceremony. The ceremony began with the annual graduate procession through campus to EagleBank Arena where the ceremony took place. Mason recognized more than 80 student-athletes and team student managers earn degrees. Several Patriots took part in their department convocation ceremonies over the past four days.
Governor Terry McAuliffe was to deliver the annual Commencement Address, while University President Ángel Cabrera and a student Commencement speaker also gave addresses during the ceremony. Over 20 student-athletes graduated with distinction for carrying a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or greater, including 14 Peter N. Stearns Provost Scholar Athletes. Six student-athletes graduated as three-time Provost Scholar Athletes and two as four-time Provost Scholar Athletes.
