FAIRFAX, Va. – After a record-setting regular season, the George Mason women's lacrosse team has received its best seeding for the Atlantic 10 Conference Women's Lacrosse Championship.

The Patriots will be the No. 2 seed and receive a first-round bye for the six-team tournament, which will be held at Rooney Field on the campus of Duquesne in Pittsburgh. They will open the tournament in the semifinals at 1 p.m. on Friday. They will play the winner of Thursday's opening round matchup between No. 3 seed Duquesne and No. 6 seed Richmond.

This is Mason's second trip to the A-10 Women's Lacrosse Championship. The Patriots made their first trip last year after earning the No. 4 seed. They were eliminated in the opening round by top seed and eventual champion Massachusetts as the tournament field featured just four teams last year.

This season, the Patriots (12-4) tied the school record for wins in a season with 12. They posted a 7-2 mark in A-10 play to finish in a three-way tie for second place – their highest finish since joining the A-10 three years ago. The seven conference wins is also a school record, spanning back to Mason's time in the Colonial Athletic Association.

Mason rides a three-game winning streak and has won 10 of its last 12. Their only blemishes during that stretch were to UMass and Duquesne.

No. 16 UMass is the seven-time defending tournament champ and hasn't lost a conference game since 2010. The Minutewomen earned the No. 1 seed and will play the winner of the matchup between No. 4 Saint Joseph's and No. 5 Davidson at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The championship game will be played at noon on Sunday. The winner receives the conference's automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament. All games of the conference tournament will be streamed live on A-10 Network online.
