The George Mason golf team is finished the 54-hole East Carolina Intercollegiate today in 10th place, just one stroke behind Delaware and three strokes behind High Point. The two-day 13-team event was held at the Brook Valley Country Club in Greenville, S.C.
The Patriots were in ninth place after the first two rounds and just two strokes out of fifth place leading into the final round, but struggled on the course today shooting a team 328.
Sophomore Eric Edwards continues to lead the Patriots this season with a three-round 228 (73 77 78), placing him tied for 14th place at the par-72, 6,789-yard course. Teammate Brock Kovach finished one stroke behind Edwards. He had a team-high three birdies in the final round.
Al Dickens and the East Carolina golf team wrapped up wire-to-wire individual and team victories. Dickens shot 2-over par 74 to finish the tournament at 216, while as a team the Pirates closed with a 16-over 304 to cover the 54-hole event at 16-over 880.
The wins were East Carolina's second team title of the win and the first of Dickens' ECU career. Dickens entered the day with a two-shot lead and finished two shots ahead of Austin Schultz of Florida Gulf Coast.
Campbell and Florida Gulf Coast tied for second in the team field at 903, followed by Old Dominion at 915 and Gardner-Webb at 928 to round out the top five.
