Fairfax, Va. – George Mason University's softball team earned its first Atlantic 10 Conference weekly recognition of the season on Monday, when freshman pitcher Marina Vitalich was named Rookie of the Week.

The recognition is first of its kind for the San Pedro, Calif. native, who continued impressing over the course of last week and pitched two complete games, both of which led to Mason victories. The first of them was a 3-0 win on Wednesday against George Washington in the Revolutionary Rivalry.

Over the weekend at Saint Joseph's, Vitalich pitched another complete game for a total of 9.2 innings and gave up only two runs, only of them earned. The rookie recorded 15 strike-outs over the course of Saturday's doubleheader and helped Mason sweep the Hawks, earning its first A-10 road series of the season. With the two wins and the save that she picked up over the course of last week, Vitalich improved to 11-7 in her first season with the Patriots and has three saves to her account.
