HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The George Mason women's tennis team opened the first day of competition at Spring Break splitting their two matches. The Patriots defeated Savannah State (0-11), 7-0 in the morning then fell to Northwood (14-1) in the afternoon, 6-1. The Patriots are currently 4-8 on the season.

Mason earned their first point in doubles with wins at the top two spots. The doubles duo of Marijke Boers and Morgan Yang defeated SSU's doubles team of Jennyfer Vivas and Rachida Kateb 6-1 at the No. 1 doubles position and Mason's doubles team of Olivia Lacy-Thompson and Scarlett Walston defeated SSU's doubles duo of Bria Burrows and Tiffany Williams 6-0 at the No. 2 doubles position.
 
At the top singles match Brittany Pilkington 7-5 in the first set, lost the second set 7-5, but won the tiebreaker set 10-7.  Mason's Sydney Green won both her singles matches, 6-0, 6-2 at the No. 2 singles position against Rachida Kateb from Savannah State and earned the Patriots only point against Northwood in the tiebreaker set, 3-6, 6-5, 14-12.

Mason's Esu Erdenebat and Scarlett Walston each won in straight sets against SSU at the No. 3 and No. 5 singles positions.

The Patriots will play next against Armstrong State in Savannah on Wednesday.
