Women's Lacrosse Heads West for Two Games In Oregon

FAIRFAX, Va. – With a game – and win – officially under its belt, the George Mason women's lacrosse team heads west in search of two victories.

The Patriots hit the road for the first time this season, playing a pair of games in Oregon this week during their spring break trip. Mason plays Oregon at 8 p.m. on Wednesday and follows up with a neutral-site contest against Fresno State at 7 p.m. on Friday. Both games will be played on Oregon's campus in Eugene, Ore.

Mason (1-0) is coming off a 10-7 victory against Lafayette on Saturday to open its season. The Patriots were the last of the 111 Division I women's lacrosse teams in the country to register an official game. Their game against Mount St. Mary's on Feb. 24 was postponed in the second half due to inclement weather and a makeup date has not been announced.

Against Lafayette, the Patriots never trailed and scored four of the game's final five goals to break a 6-6 tie midway through the second half. Chachi Kelehan, Alexa McGovern, Hannah Warpinski and Brooke Lorber each scored twice for Mason. Melissa Lobaccaro and Lindsey Tangeman also scored and Kelehan, just a freshman, also added an assist along with Taylor Altomare.

Goalkeeper Mackenzie Duffy made her first start in a Patriots uniform and made six saves and post a save percentage of .462. The transfer from Robert Morris was named the Atlantic 10 Conference's Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.

This will be the Patriots' first game against both Oregon and Fresno State. Oregon (3-2) is coming off a 12-7 loss to High Point on Monday. Fresno State (3-3) has won two of three, including a 7-4 victory over Furman on Monday.
