George Mason and the Richmond men's tennis teams battled back and forth on the hardcourts Tuesday afternoon, with the Spiders delivering the last punch edging the Patriots 4-3 at the George Mason Tennis Courts.

The Spiders grabbed the doubles point after winning matches at the Nos. 1 and 3 positions. Mason top team of Joe Hill and James Lange dropped their match to Jacob Dunbar and Alexandre Felisa, which was followed by James Aronson and his partner Canyon Teague, needing the tiebreaker 7-6 (4) to win at the third doubles spot against Daniel Gutierrez and Giuliano Buzoianu to earn the doubles point for the Spiders.

Richmond would go up 2-0 after Dunbar defeated Mason's Aaron Capital at the top spot in the singles lineup. Tanner Baine would get the Patriots on the board with a 7-6, 6-4 win against Caleb Troy at the fourth position.

At the No. 5 position, Mason's Giuliano Buzoianu came back to win the second set 6-1 after he was blanked 6-0 in the first, but the Spiders Aronson would get the win in the third set 6-0 to extend the Richmond lead to 3-1.

With Richmond needing only one more point for the match, Mason would tie the match up with singles wins at No. 3 and No. 6. James Lange defeated Teague, 6-1, 7-6(3) and Gutierrez would win his match in three sets, 1-6, 6-3, 7-5.

The match came down to the final match at No. 2 singles. Mason's Joe Hill lost the first set 6-3, but battled back to take the second, 7-5, but the Spiders Felisa would earn the three-set victory with a 6-2 third set.

George Mason will travel to play an out of conference match at UMBC Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.
