FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason men's tennis defeated Longwood, 6-1, Friday afternoon at the George Mason Tennis Courts. The Patriots won five of the six singles and two doubles matches to improve to 6-8, while the Lancers dropped to 4-9. 

In doubles action, Mason won the No 2 and 3 matches to earn the point. Tanner Baine and Aaron Capitel defeated the Lancers team of Uffer/Manser, 6-3 at No. 2 and Daniel Gutierrez and Giuliano Buzoianu won 6-2 at No. 3. 

The Patriots won four of the five singles matches in straight sets, the only match going three sets was at No. 4 as Baine took care of Julian Farthing after dropping the first set 3-6. Mason's Joe Hill defeated Florian Uffer at No. 2 and James Lange won at No. 3 against Bharani Sankar. Gutierrez and Buzoianu won at No. 5 and No. 6 singles. 

Longwood's Alfonso Castellano broke up the Patriots' bid for the sweep across the board with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Mason senior Aaron Capitel.

The Patriots host A-10 opponent George Washington Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
