Fairfax, Va. – Despite last Sunday's Cherry Blossom Classic contest against Georgetown canceled due to weather, George Mason University's softball team will host the Hoyas after all in a non-conference on Wednesday evening.

Before the cancelations last weekend Mason got two games in and dominated both Cornell and Canisius. The Patriots outhit both opponents while making a habit of jumping out to early leads in the first inning. Sophomore shortstop Liz Seymour came through early on in each game, knocking in a combined three runs on two doubles in the first innings.

Freshman pitcher Marina Vitalich continued to impress, only giving up one run in a complete game victory over the Golden Griffins. The San Pedro, Calif. native has acclimated quickly to the college game and Mason can only hope that her strong performances continue into conference play.

The game against Georgetown will represent Mason's last non-conference game before hosting Rhode Island in a three-game series over the weekend to open A-10 play.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT

After going 0-2 in the Cherry Blossom Classic, Georgetown comes into Wednesday's contest with a 5-18 overall record. The Hoyas fell to the same teams that Mason overcame over the weekend to make it seven-straight losses on the season.

Key players for the Hoyas, pitcher Samantha Giovanniello, was unable to produce enough to lead her team to victory against Cornell, giving up six runs and going 1-4 from the dish. Against Canisius, Giovanniello pitched and hit better, only allowing four runs while going 2-3 at the plate. Three earned runs in the top of the third did Giovanniello and the Hoyas in as they were never able to recover the lead they had previously owned an inning earlier.
