FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason men's and women's track and field teams kicked off the outdoor season by nearly sweeping the Atlantic 10 Conference's weekly awards.
On Tuesday, Ayo Raymond was named the A-10 Men's Performer of the Week, Paul Adam was tabbed the Men's Rookie Performer of the Week and Rachel Forder was chosen as the Women's Rookie Performer of the Week.
Raymond, a junior from Bowie, Md., finished second – and first among collegiate athletes – in the 100-meter dash at the Hurricane Invitational in Miami on Saturday. Raymond's personal-best time of 10.48 seconds is the best time in the A-10 so far this season and sixth-fastest time in the East Region.
Adam, a redshirt freshman from Mechanicsburg, Va., made his outdoor track debut and won the 3,000-meter steeplechase by 20 seconds at the Tribe Open at William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va., on Saturday. His time of 9:32.84 is also tops in the A-10 and the 10th-best time in the East Region.
Forder, a freshman from London, England, also made her outdoor track debut by taking third in the discus throw at the VCU Ram Invitational in Richmond, Va., on Saturday. She finished second among collegiate athletes in the event with a toss of 151 feet and eight inches. Her throw is the longest in the A-10 this season, 18th farthest in the East Region and qualifies for the ECAC Championships in May.
The trio and the Patriots are back in action this weekend at two meets – the Fred Hardy Invitational in Richmond and the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, N.C.
