FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason women's lacrosse team once again threw a scare into a power conference foe.

But for the second time in eight days, the Patriots weren't able to keep pace in the second half. Mason surrendered 10 goals after halftime, resulting in a 15-12 loss to Georgetown on Wednesday night at George Mason Stadium.

A week ago, the Patriots were tied at Oregon at halftime before the Ducks pulled away. Against Georgetown, after an hour and 25-minute weather delay pushed back the start of the game, Mason led by two goals in the first half and were in front early in the second half. A tied game with less than 20 minutes left, the Patriots (2-2) suddenly let the game get away from them.

The Hoyas scored seven straight goals in the second half, turning a one-goal deficit into a six-goal lead. Mason battled back to pull within three goals twice but the second-half hole was too big to climb out of. Alexa McGovern and Brooke Lorber combined for the team's last five goals after Georgetown went ahead 13-7 with 12:46 to play. Lorber's third goal of the game cut the deficit to 14-11 with 2:54 remaining. Georgetown, however, squashed the comeback more than a minute later with a game-clinching goal.

Mason took a 7-6 lead three minutes into the second half on a goal by Jacquelyn Spalding. But that's when the tide and draws started to turn. The Hoyas (2-5) tied the game less than two minutes later and benefited from winning the draw control battle 17-11, with 11 draws coming in the second half. That and untimely turnovers by Mason, which committed 15 miscues, allowed BIG EAST foe Georgetown to take a commanding lead.

Spalding led the way with three goals and two assists, Lorber also had a hat trick and an assist and McGovern netted three goals.

The Patriots stay at home to play Longwood at 2 p.m. on Saturday at George Mason Stadium. Admission is free.

It was also announced on Wednesday that last month's postponed game against Mount St. Mary's has been rescheduled for Wednesday, March 30 at 4 p.m. at George Mason Stadium.
