HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – The George Mason women's tennis team finished out its four-match spring break trip Friday with a 6-1 win against Edinboro. The Patriots split the four matches during spring break and improved to 5-10. The Fighting Scots fell to 9-3 on the year.
In the doubles competition, the Patriots won the top two matches. Morgan Yang and Nicole Haigwood defeated the Fighting Scots Marija Tmusic and Jelena Vucenovic, 6-3, while the team of Marijke Boers and Olivia Lacy-Thompson edged Roxana Yeh and Laura Lopez, 7-6 (2).
The Patriots took five of six singles matches. Pilkington battled Julia Hellstern to three sets in the top singles position, after dropping the first set 7-5, won the second 6-4 and 10-5 in the tiebreaker set. Sydney Green won in straight sets against Tmusic at the second spot, while Morgan Yang defeated Laura Lopez, 6-3, 6-2. Scarlett Walston and Haigwood easily handled their matches at No. 5 and 6.
The Patriots return home to face Georgetown on March 16 at 2:30 p.m. in Fairfax.
