George Mason Athletics Women's Lacrosse 2/24/2016 8:55:00 PM

FAIRFAX, Va. - Despite moving up the start time, the George Mason women's lacrosse team could not escape Mother Nature.

The Patriots' season opener against Mount St. Mary's on Wednesday was postponed after two lightning delays suspended the game twice. A makeup date has not been announced. The game, originally scheduled for 4 p.m., was moved up 30 minutes in hopes of avoiding the inclement weather.

The Patriots jumped out to a 3-1 lead just 10 minutes into the game when the first delay suspended play. After a 50-minute delay, the teams resumed play. Mason led 9-4 less than seven minutes in to the second half when the second lightning delay stopped play. The game was called shortly after 7 p.m. as a tornado warning covered the Washington, D.C. area.

If the game is rescheduled, the game would start from the beginning - not from where play ended when the game was suspended.
