BURLINGTON, N.C. – The George Mason men's golf team started strong on day one of the second-annual Elon Phoenix Invitational played at Alamance Country Club, as the Patriots are tied for fourth place in the 15-team tournament.
Mason is tied with East Carolina after carding a team one-under par 567 in the first two rounds. Host Elon is in second place at 3-under par (283-282--565) and trails Gardner-Webb by seven shots with 18 holes to play.
In the first two rounds, Mason's Eric Edwards is tied for fourth overall after posting a seven-under par 135 (66-69) on the par 71, 6,867 yard course. Freshman Davis Soderberg began his day with a two-over par 73, but a two-under par 69 in the afternoon moved him back to even par.
Freshman Jeff Wilson rebounded after a first round 75 to card a 69 in the second round to stand at two-over par going into the final round. Ellis Messian rounded out the scoring with a four-over par 146.
The final round of the Elon Phoenix Invitational begins tomorrow morning, Oct. 18, at 8 a.m.
