Event: Orange Bowl Swim Classic
Mason Team Results: Women 2nd of 5 Teams (85 points); Men 3rd of 4 Teams (82 points)
KEY LARGO, Fla. -- The George Mason swimming and diving teams wrapped up its annual winter break training trip at the Orange Bowl Swim Classic, with the women's team finishing second out of five teams and the men's team third out of four teams in the competition held on Sunday afternoon (Jan. 3) at the Jacobs Aquatics Center.
The Patriots women's team battled with the Air Force Academy for second place as No. 9 Michigan dominated the meet, which consisted of mainly sprint races in short course meters.
Mason's Sydney Fisher won the 50-meter butterfly (28.04), just shy of the Orange Bowl classic record (28.02), and touched the wall ahead of three straight Michigan swimmers. Fisher also earned a spot on the podium with a third place finish in the 100-meter butterfly (1:03.84). Sarah Brailler earned a third-place finish in the 100-meter breaststroke (1:14.74) and fourth in the 200-meter IM (2:26.32).
The men's team finished third with 82 points behind Michigan and Air Force Academy. The 200-meter freestyle relay (1:35.19) finished third behind two Michigan teams. Alec Morin finished fourth in the 50-meter butterfly (25:91). The Patriots had several other fourth place finishes including Niles Biolley in the 100-meter backstroke (58.98); Deion Dean in the 50-meter breaststroke (29.98) and Craig Stevens in the 200-meter IM (2:09.60).
The Patriots are back in the pool for a home meet on January 18th at Noon against George Washington.
