George Mason lacrosse announced Erin Anderson and Kelli Beard have been selected as the captains for the 2016 season. Captains are voted upon by the members of the team and embody the values of George Mason Lacrosse – detail-oriented, positive and hard-working.
“Our captains do much more than decide a coin flip,” commented head coach Jessica Morgan. “I'm very proud of these two ladies because we train everyone on the team to be leaders and for them to standout means that they are very special individuals.”
An all-around student-athlete, Anderson has started every contest since arriving at Mason, appearing in 49 contests. She scored her first collegiate goal last season in the Atlantic 10 Tournament. A native of West Chester, Pa., Anderson has recorded 44 ground balls in her career, including 15 last season. She also caused 13 turnovers last season and won three draw controls.
Serving as a team captain the past two seasons, Beard becomes a three-time captain entering her senior season. She has been a consummate leader for this team both on and off the field. A native of Catonsville, Md., Beard has appeared in 46 matches in three seasons and started 42. Last season, she played in all 17 matches, earning the start in 16, and accumulated 11 ground balls, five caused turnovers and three draw controls.
Mason opens the 2016 season hosting Mount St. Mary's at home on February 24 at 4 p.m.
