Fairfax, Va. - In their first home meet of 2016, the George Mason swimming and diving team was dominant in the Revolutionary Rivalry with a sweep over George Washington in a dual meet held at the Jim McKay Natatorium on Saturday afternoon. The Patriots women's team finished with a 166-119 win, while the men's team posted a 183-93 victory over the Colonials.
The Patriots women's team finished first in 10 of their 14 events, including three sweeps. George Mason owned the podium in the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke, and the 200-yard butterfly. Junior Sarah Brallier finished first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:07.25) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:23.17), with senior Shannon Slate finishing second and sophomore Allison Barahona third in both events. Sophomore Dorothy Reilly placed first in the 200-yard butterfly (2:09.13) ahead of teammates Gentry Anderson, and Christina McLemore. Reilly also won the 100-yard backstroke (59.13).
Junior Sydney Fisher won both the women's 50-yard freestyle (23.50) and the 100-yard butterfly (56.34). Fisher and Reilly also combined with Amy Tansill, and Steff Maurer to win the 400-yard medley relay (3:54.86) to start the meet. Sophomore Erin Schulte won the 1650-yard freestyle (17:50.04).
The men's team claimed 13 of 14 events against George Washington. Freshman Niles Biolley won both the 100 and 200-yard backstroke, and helped the Patriots take first in the 400-yard medley relay.
Sophomore Vadim Jacobsen was first in the men's 200-yard freestyle (1:42.98) just ahead of Jesse Burnley. Steven Craig won the 500-yard freestyle (4:42.45), needing the final 25 yards to edge out Liam Huffman of George Washington for the win.
Sophomore Kylie More finished second in both 1-meter and 3-meter diving for the Mason women. Junior Paul Helfgott was first in men's 1-meter diving with a score of 268.28. Junior Trevor Long was first in the men's 3-meter dive with a score of 303.90, with Helfgott taking second.
The Patriots are back in the water for senior day Saturday, January 23rd when they host Army and American University at noon.
