Fairfax, Va. –Redshirt freshman Tejon Anthony(141) was named the Eastern Wrestling League's Co-Freshman of the Week Tuesday. Anthony shares this week's honor with freshman Patricio Lugo of Edinboro.
This is Anthony's first EWL Freshman of the Week award and the second EWL Freshman of the Week award given to a Mason wrestler. Redshirt freshman Matt Voss earned Mason's first Freshman of the Week award following the Mason Duals in December.
Over the course of the two-day Virginia Duals, Anthony compiled a 3-0 record by defeating wrestlers from Kent State, Campbell and Grand Canyon. Anthony now has an overall record of 13-7.
On Friday, Anthony defeated Anthony Tutolo of Kent State by decision 4-3, and Luke Stewart of Campbell by decision, 12-7. In the finals of the Bronze Round Saturday, Anthony won against Uzo Owuama by decision, 4-1.
Anthony's victory in the Bronze Round finals gave the Patriots an early 9-0 advantage over the Antelopes, and was his third victory by decision in the Virginia Duals.
The Baltimore, Md. native has been a solid contributor for Mason this season, giving the team opportunities to gain valuable points early in duals. Anthony and the Patriots will look to improve their respective records this weekend against EWL foes Cleveland State and Edinboro.
