FAQ's for Parents

1) Where does my student-athlete get help?
Many offices and individuals on campus are mandated to provide assistance to students. A good starting point is the team's Academic Coordinator or other staff in the Academic Services Program located in the West PE Module. The staff in the Academic Services Program is familiar with most services on campus and will make referrals as needed.

2) I'd like to know my student athlete's grades, how can I find out?
Ask your student-athlete. All staff at Mason are responsible for complying with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). For more information, contact the Office of the University Registrar.

3) My student-athlete is a freshmen or a transfer, where can he/she find help to make a smooth transition?
The Freshman Center offers programs for new students to help in their transition to college, answers questions about any difficulties they may be experiencing, and provides guidance and referrals to other resources on campus when necessary.

4) My student-athlete has a learning disability, how can he/she get help?
The student-athlete will need to establish they are eligible to receive the appropriate services and accommodations by opening a file with the Office of Disability Services.

5) I noticed my student-athlete is having difficulty adjusting to Mason, difficulty with their coach and/or teammates, and a change in mood. Who can he/she contact for help?
Interested student-athletes may contact the Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) on campus. All counseling is confidential and free of charge to student-athletes.
