Men's Cross Country Remains Regionally Ranked After Weekend Off Competition

George Mason University's men's cross country team did not compete last weekend, but still retained the No. 14 spot in the Southeast region in the weekly ranking released by the USTFCCCA on Monday.

The Patriots and nine other teams at the top and the bottom of the 15-team ranking remained where they were a week ago. Virginia and Furman continue to hold to the top two spots that they they claimed three weeks ago starting with the preseason ranking, while Kentucky, High Point, and Wake Forest still round the top 10. The Demon Deacons' Atlantic Coast Conference Duke still stands at No. 11 adn heads the final five of the rankings, which is completed by William and Mary, Appalachian State, the Patriots and Liberty.

Eastern Kentucky and NC State both marked progress of one position in the top five after the latest weekend of competition and currently sit at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively. Louisville also climbed one position and occupied the No. 6 spot.

On the other hand, North Carolina marked the biggest drop in positions this week and fell to the No. 5 spot after being among the top three last week. The only other team that lost positions was Virginia Tech, which was replaced by the Cardinals from the No. 6 spot and currently sit at No. 7.

Mason will have another weekend off competition after winning the JMU Invitational two weekends ago and will try to improve their ranking when they host the Mason Invitational at the Oatlands Plantation in Leesburg, Va. on Saturday, Oct. 3.
