The George Mason lacrosse team was represented well on the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association Academic Honor Squad lists. As a team, the Patriots finished the 2014-15 academic year tied for ninth on the list of 84 Division I programs while Erin Anderson and Kelli Beard both finished in the top 100 of cumulative individual GPAs.
The IWLCA recognized 84 schools as earning IWLCA Division I Academic Honor Squad honors for the 2015 season. Every school with a team GPA of 3.0 or higher earned Academic Squad honors.
“We are very proud of the team's academic performance, we believe that success starts in the classroom and then transfers to the field," head coach Jessy Morgan said."We had a large freshman class and it was nice to see them make the academic transition into Mason. I attribute our success to the work ethic of the athletes and the great academic support Mason provides."
The combination of small class sizes and dedicated professionals guiding each student-athlete fosters an excellent learning environment."
Earlier this year, Beard was honored as a three-time Peter Sterns Scholar Athlete Award Winner along with teammate Kirstin Russell. They join teammates Jacquelyn Spalding, Brooke Lorber and Melissa Lobaccaro in receiving the award, which recognizes student-athletes who have earned at least 38 credit hours at Mason and have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or better.
All five were also included on the Dean's List and Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll, which recognizes student-athletes with a GPA of at least 3.5. In total, there were 13 members recognized in both fall of 2014 and spring 2015.
