Mason's Daniel Gutierrez has been nominated to the Costa Rican Davis Cup team. He will play doubles for Costa Rica in their upcoming group II match with Puerto Rico. The match will be held in Puerto Rico July 17-19.
Gutierrez, a rising sophomore, went 19-11 in doubles play for the Patriots in as a freshman. His strong doubles play was instrumental in helping the Patriots reach the semi-finals of the A-10 Championships. The San Jose, Costa Rica native also earned Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) All-State Men's Tennis University Division Second Team honors for his success in doubles this season.
