Capitel and Moran win Citi Open Wildcard Challenge

George Mason rising seniors Aaron Capitel (Atlanta, GA) and Conor Moran (Centreville, VA) won the Citi Open Doubles Wildcard Challenge, held at the College Park Tennis Club in College Park, MD.  

As winners of the tournament they will receive a wildcard entry into the doubles qualifying tournament for the ATP Citi Open. The Citi Open is an ATP World Tour 500 series on the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) World Tour. The Citi Open is held at the Rock Creek Park Tennis Center in Washington DC, August 1-9 and attracts the top professional tennis players in the world.

In the semifinals the duo defeated Josh Hublitz (Mclean, VA) of UNCW and Cahit Kapukiran (Izmir Turkey) of George Washington University 6-4, 6-3. In the final they faced Daniel Gray (Bowie, MD) and Biyik Akinshemoyin (Laurel MD), both of UMBC. Capitel and Moran took the first set 6-2, but faced a stiff challenge in the second set before prevailing in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (2).

The Citi Open Qualifying Tournament takes place August 1-2 at the Rock Creek Tennis Park.
