Senior pitcher John Williams has signed a contract with the MLB's Tampa Bay Rays. Williams becomes the third player from the 2014-15 graduating class to sign with a professional team.
Williams pitched for the Patriots from 2012-15 making 54 appearances, 40 of them starts. His senior season he recorded a career-high in number of starts, wins, innings pitched and strikeouts. The Haymarket, Va. native ended his Mason career with 238 and two-thirds innings pitched and 164 strikeouts with 18 career wins. He was named the Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Week twice his senior season by pitching two complete game shutouts.
