Freshman goalkeeper Taylor Carpentier snagged eight saves and senior Kate Tangeman scooped four groundballs as the #4 Patriots (10-7) fell 12-3 to top seeded UMass (17-1) Friday afternoon in the semi-final round of the Atlantic 10 tournament.
The Patriots contained the A-10's leading offense to just two goals in the first 13 minutes of action before the Minutewomen broke through with four goals, taking a 7-0 lead into the break.
UMass scored first in the second half before the Patriots found the back of the net. Senior Mackenzie Jones found the back of the net with an assist from classmate Kirstin Russell to cut the deficit to 8-1 with 23 minutes to play. Junior defender Erin Andrews registered her first goal of the season on a free position attempt to bring the Patriots within 8-2 with 19 minutes to play.
The Minutewomen offense would respond, converting four unanswered taking a 12-2 lead with under a minute to play. Atlantic 10 first teamer, Alexa McGovern responded with a goal of her own with an assist from senior Caitlin McGinn, to bring the final score to 12-3.
