The Patriots lost a tight match to conference foe Richmond today, 4-2.

Mason jumped out to the early lead behind wins at No.1 and No. 3 doubles. The Patriots top doubles team, Jimmy Lange and Joe Hill, defeated Ethan and Jacob Dunbar 8-7 (3). The team of Nick Barker and Aaron Capitel clinched the doubles point with a 8-6 win against the Spiders Dylan Trent and Jonathan Quenard. 

  In singles action, Richmond took a 2-1 lead with wins at the top two singles At  No.1 singles, Mason's Jimmy Lange lost to Ethan Dunbar 7-6(8),6-0. At No. 2 singles, Aaron Capitel, lost to Jacob Dunbar 7-5,6-0. Freshman Daniel Gutierrez evened the match score at 2-2 with a 6-4, 7-6 (1) win against Richmond's Jonathan Quenard. The Spiders regained the lead with Caleb Troy's win over Tanner Baine 3-6, 6-0, 6-4 at the No. 4 position. In a tight match at No. 3 singles, Mason's Joe Hill, lost to Canyon Teague 6-4, 0-6, 6-3. 

 “Our guys competed very well today," said Coach Gary Quam, "This was a very close match. Our doubles teams came through with a doubles point, and three of the singles matches were in three sets.”

 This Sunday is Senior Day for the Patriots as they take on Mount Saint Mary's at 1 p.m. at the George Mason Tennis courts.
