The Patriots ended the regular season edging out Atlantic 10 opponent Duquesne 4-3 at the Mason Tennis Courts today. The Patriots finish with a 10-11 record, 3-4 against A-10 opponents.
Jimmy Lange and
Joe Hill took the No. 1 doubles match beating the Dukes Rich Robbie and Alex Aleman 8-2.
Aaron Capitel and
Nick Barker scored an 8-7 (2) win over Harry Walshe and Tim Kane at No. 3 doubles to give Mason the doubles point.
In singles Lange extended the lead to 2-0 beating Rich Robbie 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1. The Patriots went up 3-0 when
Joe Hill scored a 6-3, 6-2 win over Adam Blasinsky at No. 3 singles. Duquesne closed the gap to 3-1 after Tim Kane defeated
Daniel Gutierrez 6-2, 6-3 at No. 6 singles. Needing just one more point for the team victory Conor Moran came through at No. 5 singles, beating Harry Walshe 6-3, 6-4. With the Patriots having clinched the match, the Dukes managed to pick up wins at No. 2 and 4 singles to close the gap to 4-3.
“The doubles point turned out to be very important in this match. Our number three doubles team upped their game in the tiebreaker, and once they won our guys had the momentum going into singles. Jimmy Lange,
Joe Hill and Conor Moran all played good tennis to close out the match.” said Coach Quam.
The Patriots next travel to Mason Ohio for the A-10 Championships at the Linder Family Tennis Center. Matches start Thursday April 23, TBA.
