Weather Forces Delays for Rowing on Opening Day of Knecht Cup

WEST WINDSOR TOWNSHIP, N.J. – High intensive winds on Mercer Lake forced considerable delays on the opening day of the Knecht Cup as Mason was able to race three of four events Saturday. Mason will race its Novice 8 preliminary heat Sunday morning before semi-finals and finals later in the day. The Patriots will compete in two semi-final events on Sunday following morning action.

Mason opened things off with its Varsity 4 on the water bright and early at 7:49 a.m. The Patriots finished sixth as Duquesne captured the heat before races were delayed until later in the evening as the winds set-in. Mason did not hit the water again until 6:35 p.m. with the Second Varsity 8 which placed third in the second heat. UMass took first in 6:52.28 before Alabama at 6:53.96. The Patriots crossed in 7:01.04 and will race in the semi-finals on Sunday at 11:15 a.m.

Mason's final race of the day took place at 7:15 p.m. when the Varsity 8 hit the water. The Patriots captured another third-place finish, advancing to the semi-final round on Sunday at 11:40 a.m. Boston College took first in 6:44.33 while ODU was second in 6:50.18. Mason crossed in 6:51.33.

The Novice 8, originally scheduled for 1:08 p.m. Saturday, will open competition for Mason at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday in its heat before semi-final and final action gets underway later in the day. For complete and updated results, please click here.
