FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason softball team (13-20, 6-6) fell to St. Bonaventure (7-14, 3-5) today in the first game of the series, 11-3. Coming into the series, the Patriots had won three of their last four conference games.
The Bonnies jumped out to an early lead with a six-run first inning. Kelli Rohan and Desiree Gonzalez led the way for the Bonnies with three hits each in the game. St. Bonaventure added another run in the second inning to take a 7-0 lead.
After a scoreless third inning, the Patriots were able to get on the board in the top of the fourth after Breanna Boyd hit a sac fly to score Liz Seymour, who previously reached base on a double. In the top of the fifth inning, Seymour crushed a two-run homerun to right field to bring the score to 7-3.
However, in the bottom half of the inning, the Bonnies scored two more runs to bring the lead back to six. St. Bonaventure eventually tacked on two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to win the game, 11-3.
Christina Gabriele got the start in the circle for the Patriots and Sarah Kleinfelter pitched in relief. Casey Price and Seymour led the Patriots with two hits each in the game.
Mason takes on St. Bonaventure again tomorrow in a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m.
