SAINT LOUIS, MO – The George Mason softball team (9-16, 3-3) fell to Saint Louis (20-11, 5-3) 4-3 in the final game of the Atlantic 10 series. The Patriots went 1-2 overall against the Billikens in three close games.
Saint Louis and Mason went back and forth the entire way in the final game of the series today. The Patriots started off with one run in the first inning after Brooke Blankenship hit a sac fly to bring home Liz Seymour, who tripled to left center the play before.
With the game tied 1-1, the Patriots took the lead in the top of the third after scoring two more runs. After Julia Czarnecki scored, Casey Price hit a single to second base to bring in Seymour for the third Mason run of the day. However, Saint Louis responded in the bottom half of the inning with two runs of their own to tie the game again.
The game went down to the bottom of the seventh with the game still tied at 3-3. With a runner on second base, Saint Louis' Brianna Lore hit a double down the left field line to score the runner for the walk-off win.
Liz Seymour and Casey Price led the Patriot offense with two hits each. Julia Czarnecki picked up the only other hit of the game for Mason. Sarah Kleinfelter got the start in the circle and pitched two innings for Mason and gave up just two earned runs on three hits. Casey Herring pitched the final four innings in relief and gave up just two hits and no earned runs.
Brianna Lore picked up the win for Saint Louis and pitched all seven innings. Lore also led the team with two hits and one RBI at the plate.
