Mason women's tennis team opened the Atlantic 10 conference schedule with a 6-0 loss to Richmond. The Spiders move to 7-2 and the Patrios fall to 9-7.

The Spiders swept the doubles matches, but not without a fight from the Patriots. At No. 2 doubles, Mason's team of Jane Award and Esu Erdenebat lost in a tiebreaker to the Spiders team of Boys and Sales. Richmond took all the singles matches that were completed. At No. 4 singles, the Patriots Olivia Lacy-Thompson battled for 1 hour and 43 minutes in the first set that ended in a 7-6 loss to the Spiders Brittany Boys. The second set was tied at 1-1 before a decision was made to not finish.

Mason plays UDC Sunday starting at 2:30 p.m.
