HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, FL - Virginia Tech University captured the 3rd Annual Mission Inn Spring Spectacular. The Hokies won the tournament title for the second year in a row.
The Hokies came out strong in the final round shooting a 4 under par, 284. They finished with a 3 under par, 861 for the tournament.
Austin Powell from Penn came into the day one stroke behind the leader and fired a 3 under par, 69 in the final round to win the individual honors with a 6 under par. Scott Vincent from Virginia Tech came in two strokes behind at 4 under par for the tournament.
Mason finished 16th in the team standings led by freshman Brock Kovach. Kovach shot a 228 (79-74-75) for the tournament. Kovach had an impressive spring debut after shooting a 79 in the opening round. Kovach finished tied for 30th place.
Freshman Eric Edwards also had an impressive spring debut carding a 232 (78-77-77) for the tournament. He was consistent throughout the tournament on a very difficult golf course.
The young Patriots came into the tournament without much experience but came away with building blocks for the rest of the season. “We played well at times today, but when we made mistakes we compounded them by making another. We are excited about the rest of the season and continuing to improve.” Head Coach Scott King said after the tournament.
The Patriots will travel to the Blue Devil Spring Shootout in Durham, NC on March 22nd.
