FAIRFAX, Va. – The George Mason softball team is set to host Akron, Wagner, and Georgetown for the Cherry Blossom Classic Tournament this weekend. The Patriots just split a doubleheader with UVA, falling 10-9 in 11 innings and winning 8-7 off a Casey Herring walk-off double.

SOFTBALL vs. Georgetown

Georgetown comes into this tournament on a four-game skid, including a 2-0 loss to Wagner. Alessandra Gargicevich-Almeida leads the Hoyas offense with 18 hits on a .316 batting average and 12 RBI. Samantha Giovanniello has also provided 12 RBI and has hit a team-high five doubles this season.
Meanwhile, Megan Hyson leads the Georgetown pitching staff with a 1.85 ERA on a 6-4 record. Hyson has pitched seven complete games in seven starts and leads the team with 78 strikeouts.

Akron comes into this tournament after winning two of its last three games. Sophomore Alyssa Nicholas leads the Zips' offense, batting .321 with a team-high 18 hits, two home runs, and a team-best 12 RBI. Senior Chelsea Wildey follows with a .292 batting average and has added five RBI on seven hits.
On the mound, 2014 MAC Pitcher of the Year Erin Seiler leads the Akron pitching staff with a record of 8-6. She's struck out 124 batters while throwing 13 complete games, including three shutouts.

Wagner comes into this tournament having lost two consecutive games after beating Georgetown 2-0. Senior Kelsey Parker is Wagner's top hitter so far this season, batting .393 with 11 hits, three doubles, and five RBI. Laura Petri is also having a great year on offense, batting .318 on seven hits and four RBI.
On the mound, sophomore McKaleigh Goodale is 2-2 with a 2.30 ERA in five games. She has 15 strikeouts in 27.1 innings pitched so far this year.
