ORLANDO, FL – The George Mason softball team fell in the final game of the UCF Tournament to Boston College, 5-1. The Patriots hit the road again next weekend when they participate in the USC Upstate Tournament held in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
Christina Gabriele got the start for the Patriots and was locked in a pitching duel with BC's Allyson Frei for most of the game. The game was scoreless for the first three innings, until freshman Liz Seymour hit a double to right field to score Brooke Blankenship and give Mason a 1-0 lead.
However, in the top of the fifth inning, the Eagles were able to tie the game up after a Megan Cooley RBI. After a scoreless sixth inning, Boston College was able to add four more runs in the top of the seventh inning to eventually win the game.
Julia Czarnecki, McKenzie Jones, Heather Ferguson, Blankenship, and Seymour were able to pick up hits in the game. Cooley led the way on offense for the Eagles with two RBI.
The Patriots hit the road again for the USC Upstate Tournament starting on February 13.
