The men's tennis team kicked off the spring season Friday with a 6-1 win over Morgan State at Montclaire Country Club in Dumfries, VA. The Patriots swept the doubles, with Jimmy Lange and
Joe Hill taking number one doubles, 6-4 over Treajh Ferguson and Evan Ward.
Tanner Baine and
Daniel Gutierrez beat Duc Park and Lucas Krysinski 7-5 at number No. 2 doubles, and
Aaron Capitel and
Nick Barker closed with a 6-1 win over William Jay and Sagar Sathyranan.
In singles JImmy Lange was the lone loss for the Patriots, falling to Duc Park 6-1, 5-7, 7-5 at the top position. At No. 2 singles
Aaron Capitel beat Morgan States Evan Ward 6-4, 6-3.
Joe Hill claimed a 7-5, 7-6 (5) win over the Bears Treajh Ferguson at number three. Conor Moran beat Lucas Krysinski at the fourth position 6-2, 3-6, 6-4. Morgan States William Jay fell to
Tanner Baine, 6-1, 6-1 at five singles, and
Daniel Gutierrez scored a 6-0, 6-1 win over Sagar Sathyranan.
“The team played well today," said coach Quam. "We got off to a good start winning all three doubles, and the guys carried that momentum forward into their singles play.”
The Patriots are in action again on tomorrow at Mary Washington at 10:00 a.m.
