ORLANDO, FL – The George Mason softball team fell to Boston College and UCF in the opening games of the 2015 season.  The games started off the UCF Tournament held in Orlando, Florida. 

Game 1

Boston College was able to get out to a quick lead after scoring the first seven runs of the game in the first three innings.  The Patriots were able to score one run in both the fourth and fifth innings before trailing 9-2 heading into the seventh inning.

After Casey Price and Mary O'Connor singles, Breanna Boyd singled to center field to pick up an RBI.  Angela Maioran was also able to pick up an RBI in the three-run inning for Mason.  The Patriots comeback bid was cut short as the Eagles won the game 9-5.

Casey Herring got the start on the mound for the Patriots and pitched the first two innings.  Sarah Kleinfelter came in relief and pitched the final four innings.  Allyson Frei picked up the win for the Eagles.  Taylor Coroneos drove in two runs for Boston College to help out on offense.

Game 2

Christina Gabriele and Mackenzie Audas were locked in a pitching duel for a scoreless first three innings.  However, UCF was able to take the lead after a four-run fourth inning.  The Knights ended up closing out the game and winning 7-0 thanks in part to a no-hitter from Audus.  Audus added 10 strikeouts in the no-hitter performance.

The Patriots continue in the UCF Tournament tomorrow with a game against Boston College at 11 a.m. and another game against UCF at 4 p.m.
