George Mason lacrosse was picked to finish eighth in the Atlantic 10 in the conference's preseason poll released Thursday. The choice was made by the leagues nine head coaches. Six-time defending league champion Massachusetts received 80 points as they were picked to win the conference for the seventh straight season. The Patriots received 23 points, finishing in front of St. Bonaventure.
The Patriots open their first season under head coach Jessy Morgan Friday, February 20 at Winthrop before opening conference play March 27 at UMass.
Mason lost nine letter winners from the 2014 campaign including Rachel Obregon who led Mason in scoring in both the 2013 and 2014 seasons. The Green and Gold add nine true freshman in addition to the 13 returning members from last season's squad, which finished 7-9 on the season and 1-6 in conference play.
UMass is coming off a 2014 campaign in which it went 18-2 overall and earned its fourth straight bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Minutewomen's 28 consecutive regular-season league wins is the fourth longest such streak in NCAA history. Overall, UMass has won 40 consecutive games (including A-10 Championship games) against league teams.
