BUIES CREEK, N.C. - George Mason lacrosse used eight goals in the first half to help claim its first victory under first-year head coach Jessy Morgan with a 9-5 decision at Campbell Sunday afternoon.

After just six minutes of play, Melissa Lobacarro struck first with a goal on a free position opportunity at the 24:48 mark. Less than two minutes later Jackie Spalding found Lobacarro for another tally to put Mason up 2-0. Caitlin McGinn would become the third Patriot to score in the contest with an unassisted shot, giving the Patriots a 3-0 lead with just over 20 minutes to go in the opening half.

Spalding would register her second assist of the day shortly after, finding McGinn by the net to complete Mason's 4-0 run. The Camels responded with two unanswered to cut the Patriot's lead in half, but McGinn would locate Lobacarro as the sophomore converted her third goal, sparking another 4-0 run for the Patriots. Kirstin Russell and Mackenzie Jones would each tally a goal before Spalding added one to give the Patriots an 8-2 lead at the break.

Mason would score just once in the second half courtesy of Spalding who, along with Lobacarro, would end the game with four points. Freshman goalie Taylor Carpentier earned her first career win with nine saves while allowing just five goals.

The Patriots return to Mason Wednesday when they host Mount St. Mary's in their home opener at 5 p.m.
