ROCK HILL, S.C.-- Caitlin McGinn and Melissa Lobaccaro registered two goals each as George Mason women's lacrosse fell 17-6 at Winthrop in their season-opener Friday afternoon.

The Eagles took advantage of an early Mason penalty, scoring the game's first goal a man up on a free position opportunity less than five minutes into action. Winthrop would find the back of the net two minutes later, taking a 2-0 lead with 23 minutes left in the first half. The Patriots responded, as Lobacarro scored Mason's first goal of the season two minutes later.

Winthrop would score four unanswered goals before McGinn would convert two goals in less than two minutes of action to cut the lead to 6-3 with 4:21 to play in the first half. Winthrop's Jenna Kasmarik responded with her fourth goal of the half, sending the Patriots into the break trailing 7-3.

The Eagles would get two more goals early in the second half before Jacquelyn Spalding found Lobacarro for her second goal of the day. Spalding would find the back of the net herself less than 30 seconds later cutting the lead to 9-5. Chloe Chan rounded out the Patriots scoring efforts with a goal of her own, however Winthrop would hold Mason scoreless for the final 15:27 of play while scoring seven goals for the final score of 16-7.

The Patriots look to bounce back at Campbell Sunday at 2 p.m. before returning to Fairfax Wednesday for their home opener against Mount St. Mary's at 5 p.m.
