GENEVA, Ohio – After winning two gold medals on Thursday, senior Travis Lauri followed up with a meet and conference record performance on day three of the Atlantic 10 swimming & diving championships in Geneva, Ohio.
Lauri's record-setting swim came in the 100-yard butterfly, an event in which he came in with the top seed time. After swimming a 48.34 in preliminary heats the senior slashed his mark with a time of 47.86, setting the new record and also earning a NCAA “B” standard qualifying time in the process. Daniel Camozzo also earned a spot on the podium in the event, finishing in third with a time of 48.58.
Several other Patriots also claimed top-three finishes on day three of the championships. Madison Baker placed second in the 400-yard IM in a time of 4:20.45, only 0.12 seconds off of first. William Clendenin and Steven Craig took second and third in the men's 400-yard IM with times of 3:53.31 and 3:55.83, respectively. Clendenin also qualified for a NCAA B time.
Sydney Fisher continued her successful championships with a third place finish in the 100-yard butterfly in a mark of 54.86 to set a new team record whereas Kelsey Sorensen placed second in the 100-yard backstroke, only 0.02 seconds behind first place with a time of 55.84.
The women's team moves up to sixth place overall with 268 points, behind UMass who gained the top spot with 411 points. The men remain in contention for a podium finish, continuing to remain in third with 350 points. Defending champion St. Bonaventure leads with 412 while UMass is second with 366.5 points.
